Dear Prosser School District Parents and Students,
On April 21, 2020, the State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) provided new guidance on student grading.  The guidance given by OSPI restricts districts from offering a Failing “F,” No Credit “NC”, or Pass “P” grade. Additionally, the guidance asked districts to allow students to resubmit and complete work that would improve the grade they had at the time of closure.  If a student’s work does not meet expectations, an incomplete “I” grade can be issued. If a student receives an “I” grade, the student will be asked to make complete the missing work as soon as school reconvenes.  Students receiving letter grades in grades K – 12 will have two options: 
Option 1: Maintain their March 17, 2020 Passing Grade 
Option 2: Improve their March 17, 2020 Grade
Because there will be no “F” or “NC” grades, all K-8 students will be promoted to the next grade.
The district has not made a definitive decision on the scale of grades which will be offered.  We hope to make this decision in the near future after we have collaborated with our teachers, administrators and parents. The considerations include a very limited “A” or “I” (Incomplete) grade scale and a fuller scale which includes “A-D” or “I”. Regardless of the scale chosen, your child’s grade will not be lower than what it initially was at the time of closure.  If you have input or questions about the topic of grading, please reach out to your child’s building administrator.
Prosser School District is committed to providing every student the opportunity to continue to engage in distance learning through the remainder of the school year. Our distance learning will focus on critical core learning standards and learning activities provided by teachers to help students progress in their learning and prepare for the next level.  It is important for learning to continue, and student grades to not be negatively affected by the school closure. We encourage and expect students to engage in learning activities provided by teachers.

Waiver to Allow Parent/Guardian Meal Pickup
USDA has issued a nationwide waiver to allow parents and guardians to pick up meals without children being present. Under this waiver, Program operators with an approved waiver allowing non-congregate meal distribution during COVID-19-related operations may distribute meals to a parent or guardian to take home to their children.

During school closures, FREE Grab and Go meals will be available to  ALL children 0-18 years from 11:00AM - 12:30PM

Meals MUST be taken and consumed OFF SITE.  Each child will receive two meals, lunch for the day and breakfast for the following morning.

Pay increase for Substitute Teachers
Starting March 1st, 2020 the rate of pay for substitute teachers will be raised $10 per day.  Taking the pay from $125 per day to $135 per day.  If you are interested in applying to be a substitute teacher please contact Kim Bolt at 509-786-3323.

Important Construction Message:
"Students - Construction of the site for the new high school has begun, fences surround the site, AND THIS AREA IS OFF LIMITS TO STUDENTS AND ADULTS.  For your safety, please do not enter inside any of the fencing at any time of day.  All foot traffic should occur on the sidewalks available along Paterson, Alexander, and Highland.  The parking lot to the Softball and Soccer fields, along with some parking at the stadium, remain available for those after school activities at this time.  Please be respectful of the work, boundaries, and efforts.  Thank You!"

Educational Resources for Distance Learning:

K-8 Printed Material Packet Information
For those families with K-8 students, needing paper homework packets, they may pick up their students’ assignments every Monday from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Keene-Riverview and Whitstran Elementary School. 
PHS Printed Material Packet Information
Students in grades 9-12, without internet access and who have requested print materials will be able to pick those up on Wednesday, April 15, at Prosser High School. More information will come with a specific time and process. If a device is checked out on Monday, April 13, the work will be available online and those students will be removed from the printed material pick up list.  If the print material has not been specifically requested there is not a guarantee that it will be ready for pick up. If you have not made a request for print material through your teacher or through email, please email Mr. Funk at to make a request. 
Please be understanding as we work through this difficult challenge to identify the needs of our students.
