Yesterday, Housel Middle School sent 45 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders to Davis High School in Yakima to participate in National History Day Regionals. Students left Housel Middle School at 6:30 AM and did not end up getting home until around 7:30 PM. Students presented exhibits, research papers, websites, documentaries and original performances. They presented on topics from the Compromises of 1820 and 1850, the Versailles Peace Treaty, the Leagues of Nations, and Women’s Suffrage to Native American Treaty and Fishing Rights, and the poetry of Alice Duer Miller. We had students show projects on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Susan B Anthony, Cesar Chavez, Kennewick Man, the Trail of Tears, The Pig War, and even the treaty for the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. We are so proud of all of the students who spent their Saturday presenting their awesome projects.
There were about 275 students from various school districts across the valley.
Not being sure what to expect after a two year Covid break, Housel students brought their best and qualified 24 for State!! Congratulation NHD participants! Good luck at state!
