Prosser School District Next Superintendent Search Update #3 Preferred Candidate

The Prosser School District’s Board of Directors acted on the Prosser School District’s Next Superintendent Ideal Profile: Qualifications and Criteria at its regular board meeting on October 11, 2023.  Subsequent to that action, the Board recessed into executive session to consider the qualifications of a candidate for public employment, consistent with RCW 42.30.110(1)(g).  The Board reconvened in regular session, and by unanimous vote, named Ms. Kim Casey, Prosser interim superintendent, the preferred candidate for the permanent superintendent position.    The Board has scheduled a series of stakeholder engagement meetings with Ms. Casey on October 23, including an evening community “meet and greet” event at 7:00 pm in the Prosser High School Library.   Students, parents, family members, employees, or community members are welcome to attend.  Ms. Casey will be invited to share some opening remarks and will be asked to respond to questions facilitated by Human Capital Enterprises.  Feedback will be collected afterwards by HCE consultants and shared with the Board as part of their deliberations.  The Board will interview Ms. Casey in executive session on the evening of October 24.

“Given the growing chorus of feedback the Board has received regarding Ms. Casey’s “fit and match” with the needs of the district at this time, and consistent with our own observations, it probably makes sense to slow the search process down, take stock of where we are, and invite more feedback from stakeholders regarding Ms. Casey’s candidacy for the permanent role,” said Board president Jason Rainer.  “As I said before, this is the most important decision a school board makes.  And we’re eager to hear from you.”

Previously, the Board met with Human Capital Enterprises at a special board meeting on October 4, 2023, to review and revise the draft profile which had been prepared by HCE consultants after reviewing input from nearly three hundred stakeholders- students, staff, parents, community leaders and district patrons.  The input was gathered through 1:1 interviews, focus groups, and an on-line community survey.  Participants were asked about Prosser School District’s strengths, challenges, and personal and professional qualities, attributes, skills, and experiences desired in Prosser’s next superintendent of schools.

A Prosser School District Stakeholder Engagement Executive Summary was also shared with the Board of Directors.   The findings contained in the report were obtained from input received by Human Capital Enterprises consultants Steve Webb, Ed.D., Hank Harris, and Hector Garcia, Ph.D.   This information helps inform prospective applicants of the district’s strengths, complexities, and challenges.
