Special Programs hosted the Fall Celebration last night, and we're thrilled to say it was a hit! Many students and families joined us for a fun evening, and we were impressed by the creativity on display during the pumpkin painting. We want to express our gratitude to everyone who attended and a special thank you to Rene Martinez for all your help. A huge shoutout to Fewel Farms for generously donating all the pumpkins. Thank you!

On the evening of Thursday, September 28, the Prosser girls' volleyball team traveled to Selah High School for a volleyball match. During the match, our athletes reported the Selah student section was making inappropriate comments to the Prosser athletes. The coaching staff immediately reported these issues to the officiating crew who then reported it to Selah School District supervisors. Both districts are in communication and will be conducting an investigation. The district will notify the WIAA, but this is an ongoing investigation. Both districts will not tolerate any student athletes being treated in this manner.

Please welcome Maria Ayala, our new school social worker! She supports students at HMS and PHS.
My name is Maria Ayala. I was born in Prosser but raised in the lower valley. I graduated from Heritage University in 2007 with my bachelor’s degree in Social Work and in 2020 I received my Master of Social Work from Walla Walla University. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker Associate. I spent thirteen years of my career as a case manager working with diverse populations. I’ve been working in the mental health field since obtaining my MSW. I speak English and Spanish. My goal is the client’s personal empowerment – that they gain awareness of their own ability for change. My desire is to normalize mental health. I love spending time with my family. I enjoy traveling, new adventures, and exploring the Pacific Northwest and California.
Favorites
• Color: purple and green
• Hobby: Photography
• Movie: Based on true stories
• Tv Shows: All American, American got Talent, and The Voice
• Food: anything with chicken or cheese enchiladas, flautas, spaghetti, salads 😊
• Sports team: Mariner’s & UW Huskies
• Vacation: By the beach/lake/river
• Holiday: Halloween
Why I became a clinical social worker. I see the need and lack of mental health services in my community especially within the school setting. If we support, educate, and teach children/youth the skills they need to cope with daily stressors, understand different mental illnesses, the warning signs of them or someone struggling with their mental health, and I can go on and on. I believe they will gain a better understanding of mental health and the importance of taking care of themselves. You are not alone! You matter!!
Welcome to PSD Maria!

Update: Prosser School District has worked in partnership with the Prosser Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Department to identify what we believe to be the source of an active shooter threat. The student has been removed from campus until Prosser School District and local law enforcement are able to sort through the details. We would like you to know for the remainder of the day Prosser School District will be adhering to heightened security measures. The safety of your child is our highest priority. Please do not hesitate to contact the district if you have any questions regarding this matter or if you believe you have information that could be viewed as a threat.
